Safety Of Lighting Electrical Ready Board In Rainy Season: Waterproof And Lightning Protection

Publish Time: Author: Site Editor Visit: 37

In rainstorm season, the lighting electrical ready board, as the core node of power distribution, is easy to cause short circuit, fire and even electric shock accidents due to water ingress or lightning stroke if it lacks effective protection. To ensure electrical safety, a dual protection system should be constructed from two aspects: waterproof design and lightning protection.

1、 Waterproof design: block the path of rainwater infiltration

Shell sealing reinforcement

The outer shell of the electrical ready board should be made of engineering plastic or stainless steel with a protection level of IP65 or above. Silicone sealing strips or waterproof rubber rings should be used at the joints of the box to ensure complete sealing. Waterproof joints should be installed at the inlet, and waterproof sealant should be filled after the cable is inserted to prevent rainwater from flowing back along the pipeline. For example, a municipal project uses a waterproof joint with thread locking, which can last for 2 hours in a rainstorm without water seepage after spray test verification.

Drainage and ventilation optimization

The bottom of the box is designed with a tilted water channel, which is matched with drainage holes to quickly drain internal condensed water or accidental water ingress. Install rainproof louvers and dust filters on the ventilation openings to ensure air circulation and prevent rainwater from splashing in. Some high-end models are also equipped with temperature and humidity sensors, which automatically activate the heating module when the humidity exceeds the standard to prevent internal condensation.

2、 Lightning protection: graded discharge of lightning energy

External lightning protection device

Install independent lightning rods above the electrical ready board or use building lightning protection belts to direct lightning to the ground. The protection range of the lightning rod should cover the electrical ready board and the surrounding 1-meter area, and the grounding resistance should be less than 4 Ω to ensure rapid discharge of lightning current.

Internal surge protection

A three-level surge protector (SPD) is installed at the incoming end of the electrical ready board. The first level adopts a 10/350 μ s waveform switch type SPD, and the second level adopts an 8/20 μ s waveform voltage limiting type SPD, forming a graded protection. A factory renovation case shows that after installing SPD, the equipment damage rate caused by lightning strikes has decreased from 12 times per year to 1 time per year.

3、 Daily maintenance: hidden danger investigation and emergency response

Before the rainstorm, check the sealing of the electrical ready board, the connection status of the grounding wire and the SPD indicator light; After rainstorm, power off immediately to check whether there is water inside, and use insulation resistance tester to confirm the insulation performance of the line. It is recommended to conduct comprehensive maintenance once every quarter to ensure that protective measures remain effective.
