Lightning Protection Module Upgrade: "zero Damage" Protection Scheme For Lighting Electrical Ready Boards In Thunderstorm Prone Areas
In areas with frequent thunderstorms, traditional lighting electrical ready boards often suffer from equipment damage, power outages, and even fires due to lightning strikes, posing a serious threat to public safety. To solve this problem, it is necessary to upgrade the lightning protection module and build a "zero damage" protection system, achieving comprehensive protection from technical principles, core components, system design, and maintenance management.
1、 Multi level protection technology: intercepting lightning energy layer by layer
Adopting a "lightning protection module+equipotential connection protection architecture". The lightning protection module serves as the core component, with built-in varistors, gas discharge tubes, and other components. It can short-circuit overvoltage to the ground in nanoseconds, with a nominal discharge current (Isn) of over 20kA and a maximum discharge current (Imax) of over 40kA, ensuring the ability to withstand extreme lightning strikes; Equipotential bonding eliminates potential differences and prevents secondary discharge by connecting the grounding system to surrounding equipment.
2、 Intelligent monitoring and self recovery mechanism
The upgraded lightning protection module integrates an overcurrent circuit breaker, which automatically disconnects the circuit and triggers the fault display window to turn red when the module is overloaded for a long time or when lightning current flows excessively. The module adopts modular design, supports quick replacement, and has built-in self recovery function, which automatically restores high resistance state after lightning strike, avoiding the risk of manual intervention.
3、 Optimization and shielding design of grounding system
The grounding resistance is strictly controlled within ≤ 4 Ω (≤ 1 Ω in high-risk areas), and copper or galvanized steel grounding electrodes are used. The grounding resistance value is regularly tested. The outer shell of the electrical ready board adopts IP65 protection level, forming Faraday cage effect, effectively blocking the intrusion of lightning electromagnetic pulse (LEMP).
4、 Full lifecycle maintenance management
Establish a "regular inspection+status monitoring" maintenance system, test grounding resistance before and after the rainy season, inspect the appearance and performance of lightning protection modules every six months, and use the monitoring system to track module status in real time. Replace aging or damaged modules immediately, and record the replacement time, reason, and parameters to form a traceable maintenance file.
Application Cases
In a coastal thunderstorm prone area, the upgraded lighting electrical ready board adopts a protective structure and is equipped with a lightning protection module with a nominal discharge current of 20kA and a maximum discharge current of 65kA. The grounding resistance is controlled at 2.8 Ω. After three years of operation and monitoring, the scheme has successfully withstood 127 lightning strikes, with zero damage to the equipment and a 98% increase in power supply reliability, verifying its reliability.
