Color Specification for Cables in African Lighting Electrical Ready Board Box

The mainstream design of lighting electrical ready board wiring in Africa follows the IEC60446 international wiring standard. New projects in North Africa, West Africa, and South Africa will uniformly implement the new color code, while some old projects will use the old British color scheme. New projects will prioritize the use of IEC new regulations.

Use brown for fixing the live wire (L); The neutral line (N) is uniformly light blue; The protective earth wire (PE) is a mandatory yellow green dual color alternating conductor, which is exclusively grounded and strictly prohibited from being used for live and neutral wiring.

The old stock lines in southern Africa continue to use the old British standard: the phase line is red, yellow, and blue, the neutral line is black, and the ground line is still yellow and green. The new electrical ready board will no longer use this color scheme. The wiring inside the box needs to be arranged in zones, with all neutral wires connected to N dedicated terminal blocks and ground wires independently connected to PE grounding blocks to prevent mixed grounding and color mixing.

High temperature and dusty African rural electrical ready boards, the color of the cable outer layer cannot be changed by oneself, and the color of the same circuit wires should be consistent throughout the process; The backup outgoing circuit follows the same color code specifications, which facilitates later maintenance and troubleshooting, reduces wiring errors and electric shock hazards, and meets the local electrical acceptance requirements in Africa.
